Trail DNA

USGS-backed difficulty, water, connectivity, and slope data per trail.

What's in a Trail DNA row

Difficulty is normalised to a 1–10 scale using USGS aggregated trails data; 1 is a paved loop, 10 is Class 5 scramble. Water access points are geotagged with potability status. Cellular status is crowdsourced from user signal reports plus carrier coverage maps.

Why this replaces prose

A 2 500-word "things to know" article is cognitive overhead at the trailhead. A scan-able table with mono-spaced digits lets you make decisions in seconds — and AI crawlers can cite the data cleanly via the TrailRoute schema.

Frequently asked

Who writes the trail notes?
