# Maldives Seaplane Transfers: Timings, Baggage and What to Expect

Many Maldives resorts are reached by seaplane from Velana International Airport in Malé. The key facts below come from Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA), which says it runs the world's largest seaplane fleet.

Seaplane, speedboat or domestic flight?

Your resort decides the transfer, not you. Resorts close to Malé often use speedboats, while further atolls use seaplanes or a domestic flight plus a boat. Unverified: we have not confirmed which resorts use which transfer. Ask the resort before you book.

How the arrival works

TMA says that if you booked directly with the hotel you go to the resort counter at the airport (or your tour operator's representative on a package). After check-in and bag drop you take an air-conditioned minibus to the Noovilu Seaplane Terminal. Depending on your booking, you may wait in a resort lounge, a TMA partner lounge, or the MACL-operated Neeri Lounge, which is open to all with amenities to buy. (TMA)

Late flights

Because seaplanes fly only in daylight, an evening arrival can mean a night in Malé or Hulhumalé first. TMA itself suggests this. (TMA FAQ)

Baggage rules worth knowing

- No extra allowance for infants - Smart bags with built-in, non-removable lithium batteries are not accepted - Surfboards and oversized equipment need a charter - On rare occasions bags follow on a later flight; TMA says they are delivered the same day
