# Thailand Visa for Australians: The New 30-Day Exemption (From 15 September 2026)
Thailand changed its entry rules on 15 September 2026. If you read older advice about a 60-day visa-free stay, it no longer applies to new arrivals.
Myth vs fact: Australians and Thailand in late 2026
- Myth: Australians still get 60 days visa-free. Fact: The 60-day scheme ended on 15 September 2026. - Myth: Australians need a visa on arrival. Fact: Australia is on the 30-day exemption list, so no visa is needed for tourism.

Timeline of the change
The Tourism Authority of Thailand says the new 30-day and 15-day exemptions replaced the 60-day visa exemption on 15 September 2026, after Ministry of Interior announcements in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026. Sixty countries and territories, including Australia, are on the 30-day list.
Mistake to avoid: repeated land-border runs
Under the new rules, travellers using the 30-day exemption through land-border checkpoints may generally enter this way no more than twice per calendar year, according to TAT.
Mistake to avoid: assuming tourism covers everything
The exemption covers tourism. For longer stays or other purposes, apply for the right visa through Thailand's official e-Visa website, run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
